Malwarebytes: adware biggest threat in 2019 a 13% increase in detections!

Malwarebytes states in its 2019 year report that adware is the biggest threat to individuals and businesses.

According to Malwarebytes, the number of detections seems to be shifting from end-users to companies. It concerns a total of 41 million malware detections, 9.5 million of which are detected in companies.

The total malware detections in 2019 were 41 million, 17 million of these malware detections were adware installations in 2019. This is an increase of 13 percent over the year 2018.

Malwarebytes states that adware is using increasingly aggressive ways to infect users. The adware that redirects users to rogue advertisements and hijacks the browsers is more challenging to remove, according to Malwarebytes.

Adware infections mainly concern an increase in Mindspark and InstallCore adware. These adware installations are most commonly found among users by Malwarebytes. The adware most commonly found among companies is the Yontoo adware.

Users should pay close attention to what they install.

Adware is often offered on the Internet with free software. Malwarebytes expects the number of adware detections to increase in 2020. So pay attention!
