When you use Edge Chromium, you’re also using Microsoft’s Bing search engine. Not surprising, since both products are designed by Microsoft.

Fortunately, you are able to modify the search engine. In this article, I explain how to change or manage a search engine in Chromium Edge (former Microsoft Edge).

Once you have opened the Microsoft Edge Chromium browser, go to the settings.

You’ll find them under the three dots on the top right of the screen, then press Settings at the bottom.

A new page will open. In the menu on the left, you will see the option Privacy and Services. Click on it and scroll down until you see the option Address bar. Now click on it.

Several options are now displayed. Here you can set whether you want the browser to show search and site suggestions when you start typing (like Google Chrome can do, for example).

The second option is important here. There you will find the function for changing the search engines.

It is set to Bing by default. And because we are dealing here with two Microsoft products, it also says that this is recommended. But fortunately, we can decide that for ourselves, aren’t we.

If you now press the drop-down menu, you get a choice of three other options: Yahoo!, Google and DuckDuckGo.

If you want to use one of these three options, perfect! Then choose one, and you’re done.

    Add search-engine to Edge Chromium

It can be done in another, more complicated way. If you press Manage Search Programs and then the Add button, you can also add them manually.

Now a screen pops up where you can start filling in the form. Give the search engine a clear name and keyword and then fill in the URL of the search engine, followed by %s.

For example, http://google.com/search?q=%s. Now click Add. Now you can use the three dots on the right to indicate that this will be your new default search engine in Chromium Edge.

I hope this article has helped you change or manage search engines in Microsoft Edge (Chromium Edge). Thank you for reading.

    1. Well, I do see how your excellent guide to switching browser should work but it’s my additional tabs that I’m trying to get at. My opening tab is fine (with Google)
I want to see ‘Google’ on pages at ALL tabs, I don’t care for Bing that ‘Edge’ has coming across!
      It runs on Windows 10.

lease do not share my details with anyone, thanks.
