Block users from installing Google Chrome extensions

More and more Google Chrome users are using browser extensions. Browser extensions are useful for adding functionality to the web browser. However, a browser extension can also cause problems in Google Chrome. Browser extensions can slow down the web browser and sometimes add functionality like installing a new tab or replacing the search engine in the web browser.

Block users from installing Google Chrome extensions

Right-click the Windows start button. Click on Run. In the Run window type: regedit. Confirm regedit with a yes to make changes to the computer.

In the register-editor goto: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies. Right-click on Policies and click on New > Key, name the key “Google”. Once again right-click on the newly created “Google” key and click on New > Key, name it “Chrome”. When “Chrome” is created click on “Chrome” and click on New > Key and name it “ExtensionInstallBlocklist”.

Right-click on “ExtensionInstallblocklist” and click on New > String. Name the new string “1” and change its value to *.

Make sure to reboot your computer when done!
