AV-Test has compared 21 anti-virus packages for Windows 10, where only two virus scanners managed to reach the maximum score of 18 points. The 21 virus scanners and Internet security suites for consumers were tested with 10,000 malware samples.

The packages were judged for the detection of malware, performance, and usability. For the three parts, the antivirus software was able to earn 18 points. Malware detection looked at 202 "zero-day" malware samples and nearly 9800 malware samples discovered in the last four weeks. According to AV-Test "zero-day" labeled as new malware, had an average score of 99 percent success rate. The test with the 9800 copies yielded an average detection score of 98.5 percent. Eleven virus scanners managed to get the maximum 6 points. Qihoo sets the lowest score with 1 point and 4 points respectively.

In the second part, the performance, the team looked at things like visiting websites, downloading files, installing and running software and copying files. AV-Test checks the performance of the antivirus software while performing these actions. Four packages, AhnLab, Bitdefender, Kaspersky Lab and PC pit Stop, score the maximum 6 points. Comodo puts the lowest score down with 3.5 points and has the most significant negative impact on the performance.

As the last part, the usability, the "false positives" were discussed. In these cases, the virus scanner considers clean (legitimate) software as malware or clean websites as infected. Av-Test took the test with six packages, AhnLab, Avira, ESET, Kaspersky Lab, McAfee, and Symantec, get the maximum 6 points in this section. PC Pitstop and Qihoo 360 end with every 3.5 points.

Eventually, only AhnLab and Kaspersky Lab score the maximum 18 points, followed by Avira, Bitdefender, McAfee, and Symantec with each one 17.5 total points. AV-Test evaluates anti-virus packets with 17.5 points or more as "top product." The last spot is for Qihoo360 and Comodo with 10 and 13 points respectively, followed by Windows Defender with 14 points. The results do not surprise anyone, do they?
