Search.xyz is a misleading redirect. The Search.xyz redirect is commonly shown by adware and potentially unwanted programs (PUPs). Many users are redirected to Search.xyz unwillingly, most often as a pop-up in the web browser or advertisement through multiple redirects by advertising networks.
Search.xyz is trying to trick the user into subscribing to push notifications. Push notifications are originally designed to alert the user of newly published content such as news or blog-posts, however, cybercriminals now abuse push notifications to avoid ad-blockers and antivirus software by presenting intrusive ads.

Adware and Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP) infect the PC and display unwanted advertisements in your web browser.
Search.xyz is designed to deceive users to accept push notifications via the web browser. If you press the allow button, the web browser is abused to display advertisements in the right bottom corner of Windows or Mac.
Using these push notifications, cybercriminals bypass protection against pop-ups in the web browser and therefore show multiple, often intrusive – unwanted ads. It is important to note that not only adware or PUPs but also suspicious advertising networks can redirect the Google Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, Edge or Safari browser to the Search.xyz pop-up.
