AdwCleaner is a free tool to remove adware. At this moment there is a scam site where Internet users see pop-ups that state that their computer is infected with adware.
Once users click on the warning, they are directed to a website that offers a rogue version of AdwCleaner. Once this rogue is installed a scan is performed which states that the computer is full of adware, to remove the unwanted software, users must pay $ 59,99.
By a misconfigured web server BleepingComputer could see how many people clicked on the pop-up, let the scan run and eventually bought the software. The webserver shows that the criminals with all their scam would have earned thousands of dollars from this AdwCleaner scam.
